VoiceCom

VoiceCom is a voice communication application for PCs. VoiceCom is designed for voice communication between PC VoiceCom applications (terminals) on local LAN.  VoiceCom behaves like a "push to talk" intercom.

This VoiceCom supports communication with up to 6 terminals on local LAN. Each VoiceCom terminal can talk to any of the other VoiceCom terminal (point to point) or to all VoiceCom terminals at once (point to multipoint, broadcast voice announcement). VoiceCom terminals autodetect each others presence on local LAN and display the remote VoiceCom terminal’s names to the user for communication. The only user configurable parameter at the start is the local VoiceCom terminal’s name.

Features include on VoiceCom are push to talk voice communication between up to six PCs on the LAN, address and talk to an individual terminal or talk to all (broadcast), and auto detect VoiceCom terminals on the LAN.

NetChat

NetChat is a peer-to-peer instant messaging and communications system for your local area  network. This NetChat does not require a server. It allows you to chat in real time with other users on a secure and private local network connection. NetChat works totally on a local Ethernet network using the TCP/IP protocol. If you do have an Internet connection, NetChat can work on your local subnet, so it will not be accessible from the outside world.

NetChat provides a peer-to-peer solution for instant messaging for the small or home office. Using an interface similar to the popular Instant Messaging software, NetChat provides the same features within the confines of a local network.

CafChat

CafChat is an easy-to-use application that allows you to chat with your friends in local area network. CafChat is a basic P2P LAN Chat applet. It allows users at multiple different machines within the same Domain or Workgroup to chat with each other.

If left running or if a shortcut is placed in the Start Menu’s Startup folder, CafChat can be used as a simple alternative to the Messenger Service and NET SEND commands. Windows Vista and later do not include those tools. Unlike using MSG.EXE which is not part of Vista Home editions CafChat does not require that Terminal Services/Remote Desktop be installed and running.

Because of the way it uses Mailslots only one copy can be run on each machine. This makes it unsuitable for Terminal Servers. Aside from basic testing two machines or a second machine in a VM are required. The machines must have Windows Networking (File and Print Sharing) enabled, and the firewalls must allow it through. Verifying this is important since it is the most likely source of failure.
